A recent article by the digital property group (findaproperty, primelocation, globrix) reported that the cost of a mortgage to buy property in 84% the UK is now cheaper than renting. Zoopla figures reveal that this figure has reduced dramatically down from 94% of the country in just 3 months. The Council of Mortgage Lenders reported that mortgage lending fell by 14% in December 2011, but was still 10% higher than the £9.5bn lent the same month in the previous year, at £12.2bn.

Rightmove recently reported that new sellers increased the asking price for their property by 4.1%, which is the highest monthly increase for a decade, since April 2002 (which saw a 4.5% month on month increase).
